The 9th Evolution Charity Cup

Each year, the Evolution Charity Cup takes centre stage as part of the Surfest calendar—a tradition rooted in community spirit and the desire to make a meaningful difference. This event isn’t just about waves and competition, it’s about raising awareness and financial support for a local charity that truly matters. From the beginning, our mission has been clear: support charities born in the Hunter region, dedicated to helping local people, and committed to keeping administration costs balanced so that the majority of funds go directly to those in need. Transparency and accountability are non-negotiable—every charity we partner with must be registered with the ACNC, have up-to-date submissions, and hold ATO endorsement with DGR status. To maximise impact, we focus on one charity for three years. This approach allows us to build awareness in the first year and amplify fundraising efforts in the second and third, creating lasting change.

The 9th Evolution Charity Cup will run at Merewether Beach on 5 March, 2026 as an integral part of Surfest as they celebrate their 40th anniversary and showcase the WSL challenger series of 2026.  The 2026 Evolution Charity Cup will once again be a tag-team-style surfing event  The ability to join with other local businesses to host such an exciting day is a privilege Evolution doesn’t take for granted.  To date, $350,000 has been donated to The Mark Hughes Foundation through this event and over $100,000 to isolated areas of the globe to provide clean water, sanitation and healthcare. In 2023, 2024 and 2025 we joined with Hope in a Suitcase raising over $200,000 for this important local organisation. This year all fundraising will go to Emma’s Warriors .

Meet Emma’s Warriors

This year, we proudly support Emma’s Warriors, a local charity born from one family’s fight against childhood cancer. Emma’s journey inspired a program that fills a critical gap—supporting tweens and teens through the toughest time of their lives. These young people fully understand the gravity of their illness, yet often feel isolated and overlooked. Emma’s Warriors ensures they are seen, heard, and cared for.

From creating spaces where they can connect with peers who “get it,” to providing comfort packs, technology for staying in touch with friends, and activities that bring joy into hospital rooms, Emma’s Warriors helps them hold onto their sense of self. It’s about dignity, hope, and giving them moments of normalcy when life feels anything but normal.

Beyond emotional support, Emma’s Warriors also helps families facing financial strain—covering essential bills, offering grocery vouchers, and funding travel for treatment—so parents can focus on what matters most: their child’s recovery.
